How to make the Nautilus desktop window sticky

I use Gnome together with the awesome window manager and I like to have Nautilus manage my desktop so I can use its wallpaper slideshow feature.

Unfortunately, with Ubuntu 13.10, Nautilus suddenly only displayed a wallpaper on the first tag. The other tags had no desktop window and showed ugly artifacts.

To fix it, you have to make the Nautilus desktop window sticky. This mailinglist thread showed me how to correctly target the desktop window with awesome's rules:

    rule = {
        class = "Nautilus",
        instance = "desktop_window",
    properties = { sticky = true }
